National Awards

Friday, November 19th 2010 proved to be another successful day for Tipperary in Croke Park.

The venue was the Mezzanine Suite in the Hogan Stand and the occasion was the Cumann na mBunscol National Awards. Dualla N.S. was nominated in the School of the Year category.

This was a fantastic achievement. To be nominated in a category means you are in the top four in the entire country in that particular category. It was an extremely enjoyable night in Croke Park. Delegates from all over the country got to meet with colleagues and friends from different counties.

That is what is unique about the GAA. It enables us to form friendships with people from all over the country. M.C. was Tipperary’s own Paul Collins from Today FM. Many very important people were present on the night to celebrate another very successful year for Cumann na mBunscol.

Unfortunately Christy Cooney, Uachtarán Cumann Luthchleas Gael, couldn’t be present, due to overseas engagements. However he was replaced quite capably by Leas Uachtarán Padraig Naughton. Margaret Cunningham, Chairperson of Cumann na mBunscol Náisiúnta was present on the night as were the last three Presidents of the INTO. We were also privileged to have iconic Dublin footballer Ciarán Whelan on board to present awards.

This tiny school in West Tipperary stood toe to toe with the heavyweights of the GAA World and won a National Award in the School of the Year category. It was an incredible achievement. Dualla sent in an excellent application. All their hard work over the past 12 months paid off when they achieved this award. It was a proud moment for the school, parents, school community and for Tipperary. A very proud School Secretary and SNA Ann Marie Devane accepted the award on behalf of Dualla National School. Special thanks must also go to Dualla NS Teacher Ms. Mary McElligott for all she does to promote GAA within the school
