We presented the medals & prizes for our Winter Gaelic Football League today. Mayo were the victors. Well done to all the teams.

We are now a Digital School of Distinction
We received some great news yesterday when we were informed by telephone that we have been awarded ‘Digital School of Distinction’ status. This is a new initiative which is being rolled out by the Department of Education. Dualla NS along with Gaelscoil Nenagh are the first two schools in Tipperary and among the very first schools in Ireland to achieve this status.
Our application for this award outlined all that we do as a school to integrate technology into the curriculum. The Digital Schools Inspector Neil O’Sullivan spent a couple of hours in the school two weeks ago. While here, he looked at some of the many computer programmes and tools we use to enhance learning in school.
The children demonstrated the use of literacy and numeracy software, Scratch computer programming, Digital Literacy resources/storytelling (Photostory & Storybird, Blogging (Rang 5/6 Kidblogs), studyladder literacy & numeracy tasks, Powerpoint, Animoto storytelling, iPad/iPod Touch Numeracy/Literacy applications, etc. The Inspector was very impressed with the ability of the children to use a variety of different tools to such positive effect.
The Inspector also looked at how we share information with the school community through our school website/blog and Twitter. On examining everything, it was decided that we qualified for this award.
For achieving ‘Digital School of Distinction’ status, we are to receive a top of the range laptop which will be equipped with some of the latest educational software. We also have access to a very unique library of digital resources and the opportunity to collaborate with other Digital Schools of Distinction. We are also to receive a special plaque which will be proudly displayed on the school wall of the school.
This is a great achievement for all associated with the school. Well done to all the children and class teachers.
