Dogs Trust Visit
Today, Deirdre from Dogs Trust visited the school with her rescue dogs Cónán and Sadbh. Deirdre spoke to the children about safety around dogs as part of a workshop presented in each classroom. Deirdre emphasised the importance of sensible and appropriate behaviour around the dogs. Deirdre showed the children photographs of dogs in different situations and elicited from the children information with regard to when it is safe and unsafe to approach dogs.
The children were also taught the W.A.L.T. principle:
W – Walk towards the dog.
A – Ask the owner if you are allowed to pat the dog.
L – Let the dog smell your closed fist.
T – Touch – Ask the owner where the dog likes to be touched.
All the children received Certificates from Deirdre before she left for participating in the workshop.
