In one, we looked at the effect salt has on ice.

In the other, we mixed water, food colouring, cooking oil, salt and some Alka Seltzer tablets to make our own lava lamps!

National Cumann na mBunscol Awards

Our school has been selected to receive two National Awards at the forthcoming Cornmarket National Cumann na mBunscol Awards Ceremony which will take place in Croke Park on the evening of Friday, November 30th. The Awards are to be presented by Uachtarán Cumann Luthchleas Gael Liam O’Neill.

Our entry consisted of a booklet which outlined everything we have done as a school to promote and develop Gaelic Games during the past year. It contains things like our approach to training plus many of the fine match reports written/typed by the children. We are to receive awards in the categories of ‘Public Relations’ and ‘School of the Year’ (Schools with 1 – 4 Teachers).

Part of our prize will include a decent financial sum plus a voucher from O’ Neills. The suggestions for how we spend it have already started to come in from some of the senior pupils!!

Special praise is due to the children, staff, Boherlahan GAA Club and parents who all encourage and contribute to the culture of GAA that exists in the school.

There are copies of the Booklet in the school should any of you wish to come in and have a browse through it.

Well done everybody!

European Maths Challenge

Well done to all the children in our school who participated in this week’s European Maths Challenge Days. These days saw the children in our school engaging in a large variety of mathematical games & interactive activities on the European Maths Challenge Website

The children were challenged in many different curricular areas and the children really enjoyed it.

Ms. Lahart’s Class have been participating in different tasks on the website over the last two days. The pupils have accessed the website both at home and in school. Many of Ms. Lahart’s pupils have performed so well, that they managed to make it into the top 100 pupils in the whole of Ireland.

Mr. Manley’s class explored the different challenges the website had to offered today and they also really enjoyed themselves.

As the two days now draw to a close and with the finish line in sight, we now lie in 2nd place in the Top 2o Schools in Ireland list for the two days of challenges.

Nevertheless, our ultimate goal in partaking in the European Maths Challenge was fun and enjoyment and we feel we certainly achieved this.

Special praise is due to Ms. Lahart for registering us for this unique event. We look forward with great enthusiasm to all the different activities that World Maths Day will have to offer on March 6th 2013

Heroic Display by Dualla NS at County Final Blitz

Well done to our excellent Under 11 Football Squad who went down heroically today at the Under 11 County Final Football Blitz at The Ragg.

Our squad displayed great sportsmanship throughout the day. We witnessed terrific performances from all all our players. In our first match, we were well beaten by Lissenhall NS. Our second match saw us produce a very spirited performance before narrowly losing out to a fine Fethard NS team.
Everybody associated with the school is very proud of our young squad who made history in reaching our first ever County Final. We can now look forward with great confidence to the Under 11 hurling competition which commences after Christmas.

Our Squad was as follows: Eoin Power (Capt.), Páraic Brosnan, Pádraic Flanagan, Callum Lawrence, Brendan Lawrence, Eoin Moloughney, Aisling Moloughney, Ava Ryan, Nicole Kennedy, Hannah Hughes, Anna McCan.

Special thanks again to Audrey & Michael for assisting with transport.

Mol an óige agus tiocfaidh sí.
