Members of our School Community wil make the trip to the Dáil tomorrow for a Protest against the recent cuts made to Small Schools across Ireland. It is crucial for our future generations that we make a stand at this seminal moment in our Nation’s history. Ní neart go cur le chéile.

Today in class, we gave examples of compound words through powerpoint. The older children were paired up with their buddies (children of 2nd and 3rd class) and the younger children learned lots of computer skills. We had words like foot + ball = football and snow + man = snowman with pictures for each of the words. The children are very proud of their powerpoints and we will show them to the class when they are all finished.

Fourth Class have been busy this week in carrying out their survey on most used electrical appliances in homes. Each pupil had to ask four different people what electrical appliances were used most frequently in their homes. Once all the results were collated, fourth class then had to do some analysis of their results. The findings were interesting! A lot of the children and Dads surveyed felt the TV to be one of the most important electrical appliances in the home! The most used appliances were: 1. Cooker, 2. Fridge/Freezer, 3. Dishwasher, 4. Washing Machine, 5. Dryer. For homework, this Science lesson was integrated with Maths. The children had to present the five most used electrical appliances on a Bar Chart.

Our Senior Hurlers got off to a good start yesterday as they got their 2012 campaign under way with a victory over neighbours Ballinure on a scoreline of 5-08 to 2-04. Well done to both teams on serving up such a good spectacle in poor weather conditions.

Today saw the children of the Junior and Senior Rooms present a cheque for €492.00 to St. Vincent De Paul. Eileen Gleeson, Maura O’ Brien and Diane Toomey gratefully received the cheque on behalf of St. Vincent De Paul. The money was raised by the children and their families at a Charity Cake Sale which was held in the school before Christmas. The children have been given the night off homework tonight in recognition of this philanthropic gesture. Well done to all!
